Title: Constantly Changing Jargon: What are talking about when we talk about all this Social Work stuff?

Description: Social Workers are constantly bombarded with jargon in the field, and this jargon changes over time with research, best practice, and political, social and economic trends. How do we keep up? Is there a difference between a patient, consumer, client and customer? How do the words we use impact how we practice? This lunch and learn will address the change in our language over time, the nuanced difference in the jargon that is out there, and how it impacts service delivery.

Learning Objectives:

  1. Gain an understanding of how commonly used jargon in the field has changed over time.
  2. Gain an understanding of how the words we use matter:
    • In both how we approach service delivery
    • And, therefore how it impacts those we serve.
