Workshop Description: Join us for our annual public policy workshop with Gabriel Bolling, LMSW presenting on the NASW Code of Ethics Ethical Principle of Social Justice, section 6.04 Social and Political Action, and educating attendees on how to develop relationships with public policy decision-makers. In addition, select issues of concern for social work clients and the social work profession will be discussed in correspondence to anticipated bills for the upcoming legislative session. We have invited local political candidates including: TN Senator Jon Lundberg (R); Candidate for TN Senate Amy Riddle (D); Candidate for US House of Rep. Blair Walshingham (D); Candidate for US House of Rep. Diana Harshbarger (R); TN House of Rep. Bud Hulsey (R); Candidate for TN House of Rep. Avril Love, Jr. (D); TN House of Rep. John B. Holsclaw, Jr. (R); Candidate for TN House of Rep. Bobby Patrick Harrell (D); and Candidate for TN House of Rep. Brad Batt (D); Candidate for TN House of Rep. Tim Hicks (R); to participate in this event. This event is designed to give candidates the opportunity to share their goals, objectives and positions on issues with members of our organization, ETSU students and faculty and members of the community. Each participant will be allotted a time period to speak and answer questions.


Learning Objectives:

  1. Participants will learn how the NASW Code of Ethics begins and ends with a focus on social justice and public policy advocacy.
  2. Participants will learn skills and resources for addressing the Code of Ethics’ focus on social justice and public policy advocacy.
  3. Attendees will discuss barriers to public policy participation.
  4. Attendees will learn skills for effective public policy advocacy with key public policy makers.

Cost of workshop: NASW members $0, Non-members $0 NOTE: This special meeting will be free of charge to all attendees.
