Shelby County Health Department: Programs Within The Entity


 

Learning Objectives:

 

1.      Learn to identify the signs and symptoms of Tuberculosis Infection and Disease and highlight why the SCHD celebrates World TB Day Awareness on March 24th of each year.

 

2.     Learn the impacts of smoking while pregnant

 

3.     Provide education about the Baby and Me Tobacco Free Program

 

 

Presenter: Dr. Luecretia Matthews, LMSW, LAPSW – TB Control Program with the Shelby County Health Department

Co-Presenter (s): Elbone Malone – Tobacco Program with the Shelby County Health Department

Luecretia Matthews’s career steams back to the early 90’s. She advocates services for children/youth, adults, and the elderly. Her primary goal is to help people in need and address social issues that impact their lives. As a Social Worker, she advocates for her clients and their families daily, whether it’s for housing, food, unemployment, or community resources. She holds a degree in BS in Education, Masters in Social Work, LMSW/LAPSW, and PhD in Philosophy of Christian Psychology. She has numerous achievements for outstanding service, and successfully completed the Shelby County Health Department E.L.I.T.E., Encouraging Leadership & Innovation Through Education, Leadership Academy 2019, to advance her career in Public Health. Dr. Matthews was nominated NASW” Social Worker of the Year 2014” for the West Branch region of Tennessee. She is a variable member of the National Association of Social Work organization by being knowledgeable of various community resources throughout the Shelby County area, Local, and State Government, as well as (CDC) the Center for Disease Control. She is the minister of Free Spirit Ministry, Inc. and a faithful member of Metropolitan Baptist Church for over thirty years. She currently works with the Shelby County Government as a Social Worker in TB Control, providing education and outreach services for clients living with Tuberculosis, and a Therapist for Parkwood Behavioral Health Systems Outpatient Program facilitating therapy groups for children/youth, and adults. Dr. Matthews has proven in her career that she exemplifies commitment, dedication, and strives to perform at a superior level in her Profession.
