Social Work Licensure in Tennessee

Tennessee citizens trust that a licensed social worker has met specific educational, testing and continuing education requirements. Licensed social workers are under the oversight of the Tennessee Board of Social Work Licensure that has the authority and responsibility to issue licenses, and to take action when licensees have engaged in inappropriate practice.

Professional regulation is important for public protection and to uphold social work values and ethics.

Learning Objectives:

1.       Provide the history, composition and charge of the Board of Social Work Licensure in Tennessee.

2.      Increase understanding of the professional social work licenses and general requirements in Tennessee, including the application review, approval and denial process.

3.      Provide updates regarding continuing education and other legislative information for social work licensees and applicants.

About Our Presenter: Kenya Anderson, LMSW, has served as a social worker with 19 years of social service experience in the regional community. Through her service as a regulator, Ms. Anderson was appointed to the Regulatory Education and Leadership Committee (2016 – 2018) and Continuing Competence Committee (2019 – present) with the Association of Social Work Boards (ASWB). With dedication to the goals and vision established by the academic partnerships of social work at The University of Memphis, she works as a Clinical Assistant Professor and Faculty Advisor for undergraduate social work students.
