Hearts and Minds: Making the Connection

TSPN 2018 Spring Symposium

Registration is available for the Spring Symposium, planned for April 10-11, 2018, at Trevecca Nazarene University, located at 335 Murfreesboro Pike in Nashville, ZIP 37210.

This symposium will be a two-day event: the evening of the 10th will feature a screening of "The S-Word", a new documentary from MadPix Films, with remarks by director Lisa Klein following. (Ms. Klein's previous film "Of Two Minds" was screened at our 2015 symposium.) This powerful documentary humanizes the problem of suicide, featuring accounts of people with lived experience - people who have attempted to take their own lives and survived to tell their stories. Capturing personal revelations and surprising moments of humor, "The S Word" breaks the taboo on suicide using the words of people who have been there and are now committed to preventing others from getting to that edge.

The next day will feature Dr. Thomas Joiner, renowned suicidologist and developer of the interpersonal theory of suicide. Dr. Joiner will discuss his theory as well as associated suicide prevention methods. A selection of his books will be available for purchase and signature during the event preceded by a brief Q&A session. (To learn more about Dr. Joiner, visit his website:

Breakout sessions focusing on assorted aspects of suicide prevention and mental health will follow lunch.
