9:00am-12:00pm - Surviving Sudden Violence and Situational Awareness in the Workplace
              An individual must use their own discretion during an active killer event to make a decision,
trusting their instincts, to take action to protect themselves to survive the situation. Those
decisions start with daily activities at home and in the workplace through the understanding of
“your” situational awareness of your surroundings. This course is developed to help you make
those possible lifesaving decisions.

Chief (Ret.) Mike Wilhoit
Mike Wilhoit retired from the Springfield Police Department with 37 years of service, at the rank
of Police Chief in 2011. Working for the Springfield Police Department Mike served in various
positions including, uniformed patrol, investigations, training, and administrative services. Mike
served in the position of Police Chief for 21 years. Since Mike’s retirement he has been
employed with the Tennessee Bureau of Investigation working with theTraining Division,
Technical Services Unit and the Professional Standards Unit.
Mike is a graduate of the 129th Session of the FBI National Academy, the Southern Police
Institute Administrative Officers Course in 1985, and the 30th session of the FBI LEEDA program
in Quantico, Virginia. Mike holds a Bachelor of Science Degree, in Management of Human
Resources from Trevecca University and an Associate of Science Degree, in Police Science
and Administration from Austin Peay State University.

Chuck Rountree has over thirty years of law enforcement experience retiring as a Special Agent with the
Tennessee Bureau of Investigation. He has excelled in numerous positions within law enforcement; as a
Motor Vehicle Enforcement Officer, State Trooper, TBI Drug Enforcement Agent, TBI Criminal
Investigator, and now as a TBI contract Employee assigned to both the TBI Training Division and TBI
Technical Services Division. In this role as a contract employee, Chuck continues to travel across the
state providing pertinent and informative training to state, local and private agencies in Judgmental
Shooting, Situational Awareness, Active Shooter, Sudden Violence in the Work Place and Conflict
Management. He is also a skilled TBI Firearms Instructor and guest firearms instructor at the Tennessee
Law Enforcement Training Academy.

1:00pm-4:00pm -Cultural Competence as an Ethical Imperative (3hour training)

In the social work profession, cultural competence is not only an overt value, but an ethical responsibility. The Preamble to the NASW Code of Ethics says, “Social workers are sensitive to cultural and ethnic diversity and strive to end discrimination, oppression, poverty, and other forms of social injustice.” Cultural competence is mentioned in two ethical standards (social justice and dignity and worth of the person ), and is an element of each of social work’s core values and ethical principles: service, social justice, dignity and worth of the person, the importance of human relationships, integrity, and competence.

This workshop describes social workers' ethical responsibilities to develop cultural competence; explores social work standards by which cultural competence is determined; and addresses the cultural competencies required to met ethical guidelines in regard to informed consent, service provision, discrimination, integrity of the profession, and social and political action. Participants will learn the five essential elements of cultural competence and discover ways to move, both individually and organizationally, from cultural awareness to cultural competence.
